Highlighting Friday Classes

At the end of each week students get the chance to engage in a variety of elective courses meant to provide enrichment and encourage student passions. Many of these classes were inspired by students but the majority align with teacher interests. Friday classes are fun, creative, and engaging. Each semester Friday classes change to provide the students with new opportunities. Some courses from the past include Wild West History, Guitar Making, War Strategies, Improv, and Intro to Psychology. Every semester our Friday class offerings change to meet the needs of the students.

Student Election 2019 - 2020

Congratulations to all those who participated in the Student Elections for the 2019 - 2020 school year. Each year STAR Prep holds student election for School President and Vice-President. This is the first year students were able to run in pairs, instead of individually electing school officers. The candidates this year include Donovan Coleman running with Josh Goldreyer and Max Smerling running with River Bennett. Some of the issues discussed during the election include a Japanese trip for the 11th/12th grade students, access to more classrooms, creative fundraising endeavors, bridge the gap between students and administration, and offering ways to connect with WEST LA College.

Dia De Los Muertos Skulls Project

Spanish 2 X Art Studios

Following the Latin-American traditional celebration, widely known as the Day of the Dead, students in Spanish 2 and Art Studio collaborated to create and design their own clay skulls. Throughout the course, they learned a brief background of the celebration and the art historic approach of its origin. In doing so, they gained more knowledge of how people would gather, celebrate the events, and commemorate their deceased relatives. Using their creativity and design skills, the students were successfully able to make different shapes of unique skulls.

SchoolTrip-2019-9767.jpg

Three days of the trip was full of excitement and memorable moment with classmates and teachers. Our students were able to develop teamwork through a variety of hands-on activities such as sailing on a ship as if they were pirates. They also learned how to operate the ship properly like we all need to navigate our path to the future. Seeing a beautiful sky with clear blue ocean, everyone loved and enjoyed the trip.
